Course Offerings for Students between the ages of 9+years
We are pleased to include new class options for our students ages 9yrs. and above for the 2019-2020 Season.
Please note, class schedule options for levels designed for ages 9yrs. and above will not be specified until the end of Spring due to the large amount of scheduling requests we receive. Applicants will select class styles from the list below of their interest. Students will be placed into respective classes based on age, ability, and previous training at the discretion of the faculty. An initial registration confirmation will be sent once we have received your initial class requests, registration payment, and an electronic signed 2019-2020 Policy Agreement. A follow-up confirmation will be sent with your detailed class schedule and placement.
We offer free 15 minute trial sessions for new student applicants to determine the best class level and scheduling options available for the incoming student. Please contact our office at Info@VariationsStudio.com to begin setting up your Free Trial session for placement purposes.
Ages 9+ Class Descriptions
Classical ballet is the foundation for all other styles of dance. This class will help students develop poise, grace, and balance. Students will progress to pointe with the teacher's guidance and approval. Please note, this course does not participate in the culminating Spring performance, as it will focus on ballet technique throughout the year.
Pre-pointe is designed to strengthen ballet students who wish to advance to pointe and ballet students who want to continue their pointe training. Students must be nine years of age to take pre-pointe. Students must also have this class to progress to pointe. This course does not participate in the culminating Spring performance.
Pointe Fundamentals is an additional pointe technique class for students to further develop their ankle strength and alignment. Dancers will have additional time through the class to properly train on pointe. This course is an additional class, and does not include a performance at the end of the year.
Pointe classes are designed for students with previous ballet training. Students must have permission prior to starting pointe. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Pointe class will include barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations. These exercises focus on strengthening the feet and ankles. This course does not participate in the culminating Spring performance.
Ballet Variations Class:
Ballet Variations Class is a course for dancers to have the opportunity to learn historic ballet variations from ballet performances. Dancers will have the opportunity to learn world famous variations and the history behind the choreography. This course is an additional class, and does not include a performance at the end of the year.
Hip Hop is an energetic form of dance, encouraging dancers' self confidence, rhythm, and coordination. Through this high energy class, dancers are exposed to age appropriate hip hop music and movement by stepping outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality.
This is for the serious student who would like additional performance opportunities in addition to our culminating Spring performance. Company members will participate in our Annual Nutcracker performance series in December and our Company Performance Series in the Spring. All students enrolled in the Company course must also be taking the ballet course at Variations. Dancers who wish to perform in the spring performance series, but do not wish to participate in The Nutcracker, can join this course beginning in January, but will have to order their costume in the fall. Jazz is a fun and energetic type of dance. We will work to upbeat popular music and strongly emphasize technique. We will work on strengthening and conditioning as well as learning the latest dance moves.
Lyrical/Contemporary is a style of dance that mixes ballet and jazz steps to create fluid, yet technical movements. We will work on strengthening the performance quality of each student while focusing on technique. As dancers grow and mature, so does the dancing in lyrical/contemporary classes, focusing on story telling and emotion behind movement and choreography.
Leaps and Turns
This is an additional jazz technique class that does not include a performance at the end of the year. Dancers will focus specifically on the techniques and fundamentals of leaps and turns throughout the year, while improving flexibility, alignment and movement quality. This course does not participate in the culminating Spring performance.
Stretch & Conditioning:
Dancers will further their knowledge of stretching with a focus on correct placement and form as dancers grow and improve, as well as how to properly condition their bodies while correctly improving their stamina. Core, upper body and leg strength will be developed in a fast-paced environment to improve cardio as well as muscular endurance. Dancers will learn how to tone and strengthen muscles correctly to ensure safe and correctly alignment, placement in their bodies. There will be a focus on the anatomy of their stretching to deepen their knowledge. Dancers will improve flexibility and be able to have specific exercises to continue working on their own outside of class. This course is an additional class, and does not include a performance at the end of the year.
Acro for Dancers:
Dancers will build strength and flexibility to properly perform acrobatics skills. Acro for dancers will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique specific for dancers. Classes will focus on proper placement and body alignment with emphasis on strength and flexibility required to perform proper acrobatic technique. Dancers will learn the basic and progress to advancing their skills through a structured environment to develop and improve tricks. This course is an additional class, and does not include a performance at the end of the year.
Variations Competition Team
Auditions for the Competition Team will take place in May 2019 (Date TBA). The Competition Team is an additional competitive performance opportunity that allows for our students to travel and be exposed to various instructors in the commercial industry. Members must be participating in the Variations Company program and be enrolled in Jazz to be considered for the Competition Team.
