Class Placement & Registration Process

Please note that class schedules for levels designed for students ages 7 and up will be finalized in mid-Spring, as we thoughtfully build our Fall offerings based on interest received from early-bird applicants.

As part of the registration process, applicants are invited to select their preferred class styles from the list below. Final class placements will be determined by our faculty, taking into account each student’s age, experience, and technical ability. An initial confirmation will be sent upon receipt of your class selections and registration payment. A detailed schedule and placement confirmation will follow once placements have been completed.

Upper Division Class Offerings

Ballet Technique: Rooted in classical tradition, Ballet Technique serves as the essential foundation for all forms of dance. This class emphasizes the development of grace, strength, and refined alignment, guiding students in the disciplined art of ballet. Advancement to pointe work is offered with instructor approval as students demonstrate readiness. As a year-long study focused solely on technical training, this class does not participate in the culminating Spring performance.

Pre-Pointe: Pre-Pointe is thoughtfully designed for ballet students preparing to advance to pointe, as well as those seeking to strengthen and refine their existing pointe work. Emphasizing alignment, strength, and foundational technique, this class is a vital step in the progression to pointe. As a focused technical course, it does not participate in the culminating Spring performance. Please note: enrollment in a Ballet Technique class is required in order to participate in Pre-Pointe.

Pointe: Pointe is designed for students with a strong foundation in ballet technique and requires instructor approval prior to enrollment. In this class, dancers will build upon their classical training while working in pointe shoes, with a focus on strength, control, and alignment. Instruction includes barre work, center floor exercises, and across-the-floor combinations to enhance foot and ankle stability. As a technique-centered course, Pointe does not participate in the culminating Spring performance.

Pointe Fundamentals: Pointe Fundamentals offers senior-level dancers (ages 13+) an additional opportunity to deepen their pointe technique, with an emphasis on ankle strength, alignment, and endurance. This class provides focused training to support long-term pointe development in a safe and structured environment. As a dedicated technical offering, it does not participate in the culminating Spring performance.

PILATES: Pilates is a low-impact, full-body workout that focuses on building core strength, improving posture, and increasing flexibility. This class is designed to enhance body awareness and support injury prevention through controlled movements and mindful breathing. Ideal for dancers and non-dancers alike, Pilates offers a powerful foundation for strength, alignment, and balance. All levels are welcome—no prior experience required.

2025/26 Variations Company Program:
The Variations Company Program is designed for the dedicated dancer seeking enriched performance experiences beyond our culminating Spring production. Company members will take part in both our annual Nutcracker Performance Series each December and the culminating Spring performance. Enrollment in the corresponding recommended Ballet Technique course at Variations is required for all Company dancers. Dancers who wish to participate only in the Spring series may join the course beginning in January; however, costume orders must be placed in the Fall.

Jazz is a dynamic and expressive style of dance that blends sharp technique with bold, energetic movement. Set to upbeat and popular music, this class emphasizes strength, conditioning, and precision while incorporating current choreography and stylized combinations. Dancers enrolled in Jazz will perform in the culminating Spring Performance.

Leaps & Turns:
Designed for dancers ages 10+ at the junior and senior levels, this class focuses exclusively on the technical elements of leaps, turns, and transitions. With an emphasis on flexibility, alignment, and movement quality, dancers will refine the foundational skills that support all styles of choreography. This is a technique-only class and does not participate in the culminating Spring Performance.

Lyrical:
Lyrical dance blends elements of ballet and jazz to create emotionally expressive movement. Designed for dancers ages 7–11, this class introduces lyrical technique while encouraging creativity, storytelling, and artistry. Through fluid choreography and musical interpretation, students explore the connection between emotion and movement. Dancers will perform in the culminating Spring Performance.

Students will build strength, versatility, and artistry while learning to convey meaning and story through motion. Dancers enrolled in this class will perform in the culminating Spring Performance.

Broadway blends jazz technique with the stylized choreography of musical theatre, emphasizing performance quality, stage presence, and musicality. Students will explore storytelling through movement, learning to connect with the audience and convey character through dance. This class is ideal for those with an interest in theatre and live performance. Dancers will showcase their skills in the culminating Spring Performance.
